Roy Chan brings 20 years of demonstrated accomplishments in product development, merchandising, retail planning and operations, international licensing and project management in both domestic and international markets to SBA.

 

Roy's background ranges from entrepreneurial to corporate, all of which exercised his ability to identify opportunities, create an ambitious strategy, and put the necessary talent into place for execution. Most recently, at Bestford Inc, where Roy is President and COO, a wholly owned holdings of Indus Capital Partners and controlling entity of EVISU, a premium Japanese denim brand, he created and executed a restructuring, rebranding and turn around strategy that will save the company from insolvency and result in positive cash flow and profit for fiscal 2011.

 

As Senior Vice President/GMM of International Business Development at Polo Ralph Lauren, Roy lead a merchandising and planning team and was responsible for the overall growth strategy and execution of all brands and categories under the Ralph Lauren umbrella in Asia, Oceania and Latin America with sales in excess of US$1 billion from over 1,000 points of sale. He was also the functional head of the vertical integration steering committee responsible for the development and implementation of strategic operating and transition plans for licensee business acquisitions in Asia, Oceania and Latin America, but most significantly, the buy back of the master license for Asia Pacific from Dickson Concepts.

 

Before joining Polo Ralph Lauren, Roy was Senior Vice President of Design and Product Development of Women's Wear for Tommy Hilfiger Inc, having been promoted from Vice President of International Licensing. As SVP, Roy was directly responsible for elevating brand image, the integration of all functional disciplines from design and merchandising, to planning and production while establishing annual and seasonal margin and profit goals for each segment of the business. As VP, Roy successfully grew the international business through distribution in Central and South America, Mexico, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Korea, Australia and India to combined wholesale sales in excess of $580 million.

 

Roy's previous experience was largely based in his native Hong Kong, with entrepreneurial ventures including coordinating the financing and structural and operational set-up of a children's wear design, wholesale and retail company, SKC Group, LTD, and directing new business development for WHK Holdings Company, LTD, where he negotiated for and acquired the trademark and exclusive license for Benetton, Sisley and 021 labels for China.

 

Roy is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
